DARK FOREST

SYNCHRONISED FIRELIES EXPERIMENT

The starting point for Dark Forest was a beautiful image I came across on the internet by : Tsuneaki Hiramatsu

In this project I studied the flashing behaviour of the fireflies and discovered their interesting synchronicities. I tried to recreate this with code and also combine it with the flocking behaviour. This experience is built using c++ with Cinder framework.

As part of the project, I’ve also tried the projection on different materials. I’m interested in how the projection looks. I’ve tried projecting on the wall, the grass and the leaves. They create an extra layer to the project and generate a very unique look.

Building things for kids has always been one of my passions. In this project I’ve build a small interactive version for my daughter. I was using kinect to detect where my daughter stands. Then make the fireflies to gather to that point and project it back to where my daughter is. This created a feeling that the fireflies gather around her feet. Read more about it.
